DHA Exam Eligibility – Do You Qualify?

The DHA (Dubai Health Authority) exam is the gateway to a rewarding healthcare career in Dubai. But before you can sit for the exam, you need to meet specific eligibility criteria set by the Dubai Health Authority. General Eligibility Requirements for All Professions

  • Valid passport with minimum 6 months validity
  • No criminal record
  • Good physical and mental health (medical fitness test required after passing)
  • Clear DataFlow verification report
  • Professional registration in home country
  • Good standing certificate from professional council

    Educational Qualification

  • MBBS degree from a medical college recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India
  • The college must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)
  • Post-graduate qualifications (MD/MS/DM/MCh) are required for specialist positions

    • Experience Requirements

  • General Practitioner: Minimum 2 years clinical experience after completing rotatory internship
  • Specialist: Minimum 3-5 years post-specialization clinical experience
  • Consultant: Minimum 5-8 years post-specialization experience
  • Experience must be in a recognized hospital or healthcare facility
  • Internship period is NOT counted as experience

    • Registration Requirements

  • Valid registration with National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council
  • Registration should be current (not expired)
  • Good standing certificate from the registering authority

    • English Proficiency

  • For doctors, DHA doesn't always require IELTS/OET, but it's recommended
  • Some employers may require English proficiency scores
  • If applying for specialist license, English proficiency may be required

    • DHA Eligibility for Nurses

    Educational Qualification

  • BSc Nursing (4-year program) OR GNM (3.5-year program) from Indian Nursing Council (INC) recognized institution
  • MSc Nursing graduates have an advantage for specialist nursing positions
  • Post-basic BSc Nursing is accepted

    • Experience Requirements

  • Staff Nurse: Minimum 2 years clinical experience in a hospital after graduation
  • Specialist Nurse: Minimum 3 years experience in the relevant specialty
  • Experience in multi-specialty hospitals is preferred
  • Community health center experience may be accepted for some positions

    • Registration Requirements

  • Valid registration with State Nursing Council or INC
  • Current registration (renewed if expired)
  • Good standing certificate from the registering authority

    • English Proficiency (Mandatory for Nurses)

  • IELTS Academic: Minimum 6.0 overall with not less than 5.5 in any band
  • OET: Minimum Grade B (350+) in all four sections
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum 79 (some authorities accept this)
  • English test score should be valid (within 2 years of exam date)

    • DHA Eligibility for Pharmacists

    Educational Qualification

  • B.Pharm (4-year program) or PharmD (6-year program) from PCI-recognized institution
  • M.Pharm graduates have advantage for clinical pharmacist positions

    • Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years pharmacy experience after graduation
  • Hospital pharmacy experience is preferred
  • Retail pharmacy experience is accepted

    • Registration Requirements

  • Valid registration with Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) or State Pharmacy Council
  • Good standing certificate

    • DHA Eligibility for Allied Health Professionals

    Laboratory Technicians

  • BSc MLT or DMLT from recognized institution
  • Minimum 2 years lab experience
  • Council registration (if applicable)

    • Radiographers

  • BSc Radiography from recognized institution
  • Minimum 2 years experience

    • Physiotherapists

  • BPT from recognized institution
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience
  • Registration with Indian Association of Physiotherapists (if applicable)

    Is there an age limit for DHA exam?

    There is no official age limit set by DHA for taking the exam. However, most Dubai hospitals prefer candidates below 55 years. Some hospitals have age limits for specific positions.

    Can GNM nurses apply for DHA?

    Yes, GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) diploma holders can apply for DHA. They need 2 years experience and must meet all other eligibility criteria including English proficiency.

    Is internship counted as experience?

    No, the mandatory rotatory internship after MBBS is NOT counted as clinical experience. You need 2 years of post-internship experience.

    Can fresh graduates apply?

    No, you need minimum 2 years clinical experience after graduation for most professions.

    Is IELTS mandatory for DHA?

    For nurses, yes – IELTS or OET is mandatory. For doctors, it's not always required by DHA but many employers prefer it.

    Can I apply without DataFlow?

    No, DataFlow verification is mandatory for DHA licensing. You cannot book the exam without a clear DataFlow report.

    What if my college is not recognized?

    Your institution must be recognized by the relevant Indian regulatory body (NMC for doctors, INC for nurses, PCI for pharmacists). If not recognized, your application will be rejected.

    Can I apply with pending registration?

    No, you need a valid and current professional registration at the time of application.
